"Kiss-of-Life" Kate

While a few stray dogs were off to Thailand chasing golf balls …and whatever other tasty morsels they could dig up, 14 brave souls - and some proved to be very brave indeed (and I’m not talking about the colour of Lars shorts either)- set off on a day that was hot, bright and proved to be one of very high drama at Kurmitola. Also worth noting that in the pack were two new faces… Jonde & Grahame. Those in the know please forward email on.

First issue of the day is pretty straight forward… at least for Heather, who hit her ball straight onto the top level of the 12th Green and earned herself a couple of small white ones for nearest the pin. Ya we beauty……as we say in NE Scotland.

The fun really started however with a dog fight over the doo doo. Setting aside Jonde who bravely amassed 15 points on his virgin visit to the Dogs, and hence cant qualify, the distinction of who would carry home the wee curly wurly (no… not Dave F) became a story straight out of Hollywood. While sitting on 19 points and having played a sublime shot into the 18th green our American pooch, Paul, became victim of a low flying white missile launched by the local ‘military’ from about 40 yards away on the 1st tee box. Catching him squarely in the ribs the small white projectile lifted him off his paws and floored him. On his back and faced by the threat of the kiss of life from the onrushing Kate, Paul, in what appeared from the clubhouse to be in the midst of a sea of concerned umbrellas, managed to clamor to his feet before being rushed 70 yards to the club house by waiting red crescent emergency golf cart for some serious resuscitation in the shape of an ice pack to his swelling chest (someone mentioned implants but I don’t believe it) and a couple of ice cold beers, the latter truly started to aid his recovery. As time went by, and the watching crowd started to disperse, the reality of the real threat of the day…picking up aforesaid curley wurly…..started to dawn on Paul and bravely like any cowboy, he climbed back onto that horse and went back to complete the 18th with a couple of putts and secured the 3 points necessary to reach 22 points to leapfrog "Kiss-of-Life" Kate, who unfortunately is this weeks Dog Doodoo on 21 points… It should be noted that Kate did abandon her chance of a last lingering precious point when she abandoned her ball, clubs and caddie in the rush to aid Paul and the opportunity to administer the Kiss of Life. Lars just managed to avoid the doo doo (and low flying missiles - he had enough of his own) also finishing on 22 points.

The rest of the afternoon was relatively dull by comparison with Mike and Lisette fighting out fourth and fifth place & eventually both finishing on 29 points, 3rd place balls went to Leo on 30 points, Dave Freeman picked up 2nd place balls with a great 31 points (despite playing in the last group that finished in a different time zone to the rest of us even missing the drama on the 18th), Leader of the Pack went to yours truly (3-Putt-Pete) who managed to hack his way to a fluky 36 points...Matahari be gentle please. Next week, same time, same place, bring your own body armour and TD will be back at the helm keeping us on a steady course.

Gus gusted

We had 15 mutts out to play in the heat on Saturday. For the second week running the Dog doodoo goes to Gus. To be fair, he did make an effort to avoid the 'wee devil' but with 20 points he was a clear winner. Leo, on a steady course of improvement came in with 21 points.

Nearest the Pin at the 8th this week was Khor who also managed a very steady 33 points to come in 3rd, losing on count back to Bob Bobniek who came 2nd. And Leader of the Pack this week is our Lisette with a staggering 36 points!!! Well done.... and it will come as no great surprise that she will be playing off a new handicap from this coming week having been chopped by 3 !!!

I am pleased to announce two social events.... please mark them up on your calendar now !!!!! Mal and Wiess (Robbins) will host a Dogs dinner on Friday 19th May at their kennel. This will be followed by another bash on Saturday 3rd June at Lisette and Ian's kennel to say farewell to Curly Whurly and Sharon.

Heather blooms in April

Another hot and sweaty one...... still, more preferable than pouring rain !! 15 assorted mongrels played a lot of golf. I am not sure why the scoring was so low but with one exception .... (and there is always one !!!!) the pack seemed to be trying their damnedest to be 'doodoo' !! The eventual winner of the beloved 'Dog Doodoo' trophy this week, having put up a brilliant fight, was Gus who looked like he would be more comfortable "throwing the hammer" than swinging a gold club.... Gus is a well deserved winner of the rear-end honour with 17 points. He saved Kim, with 18 points, making a welcome return to the pack and enjoyed discovering the whole course again!!

And now to the balls.... Nearest the Pin on the 6th was Lars. His miraculous shot is worthy of mention.... he bounced it across the water up the bank and it continued to run up on to the green to finish 10 feet from the pin.... unbelievable and worthy of the fine that was extracted from him. Lars lost out to Teb for 3rd place on 27 points on count back. In 2nd place was Margaret on 28 points and way out in front with 35 points this week:
Leader of the Pack is Heather. Well done. Handicap adjustments will be Gus +1, Kim +1, Heather -3 reflecting her steady performance over the past couple of months and the size of her pot of balls at home !!
Next week we play as usual at 12 at Kurmitola. I look forward to seeing you then. Have a fun week.

Leo's lament

Hot and sweaty.... the only way to describe the conditions we played in yesterday !! The storms over the past week have raised the humidity level noticeably. The other impact of the storms can be seen in the condition of the course...... the fairways and greens are already getting 'hairy' despite the fact that the course is still dry enough to cut the grass !!

We had 16 dogs turn up to play...... 4x4 and all groups were round in a reasonable time.... around 3.5 hours so a reasonably brisk walk was had by all. The golf as always was a mixed bag !! Leo suffered from the 'hot and sweaty' more than most as he struggled round the 18. He only accumulated 17 points and with that he collected the Dog Doodoo of the week....... or at least he would have done had Brian not become so attached to the lovely little trophy and kept it jealously at his side during his travels failing to give Leo the opportunity to display it at his kennel. Leo, you may not have the trophy to display but you are still Dog Doodoo of the week !!

And so to the BALLS.............Nearest the Pin at the 12th this week went to Khor. Lars had 31 points but lost on count back to Lilo in 3rd place. Khor came 2nd with 33 points and Holger was Leader of the Pack with 37 points having played brilliantly. Handicap adjustments(in the absence of Matahari!!) Leo +1, Holger -2 !!!!!

After the golf we had a really fun Dogs Dinner at Gus and Vivien's kennel with many a dog sampling the truly enormous selection of Single Malt whiskies that Gus has adorning his residence. Well, it would be ridiculous and irresponsible to let him drink all that lot on his own .............. and anyway, in true Scottish tradition Malt is to be savoured and shared with one's friends !!! Thanks Gus and Vivien for a great night. The food was lovely and the company entertaining.

Tuesday this week is a Public Holiday. A number of us will gather at Savar to play golf, teeing of at 1 o'clock. We will stop for pizza and beer on the return journey. Anyone wishing to join us is most welcome.

Bad, badder, Brian!

It was a hot one..... and a staggering 19 mongrels turned up to play... foolish some might say but it was after all the 1st of April !!! Sadly, only 18 finished as the heat got to one unfortunate mutt and he staggered off for an early beer. A word of warning.... you must drink a lot of water when playing in these temperatures but be ultra careful buying water on the course. The drinks hut operatives are playing games with the bottles of water... using old ones, filling them with tap water (if you are lucky!!) and selling as new !!! Drinking that water will guarantee an intimate relationship with your favourite 'thrown' back at your kennel !!!

To the golf.... my mate Brian once again came to the rescue and saved others from the honour of cuddling the Doo doo trophy. Michael Carey only play 11 holes before he opted for an early beer but still managed 13 points where Brian, 'ploughed' on manfully to the end but accumulating only 12 points. Curly Whurly Freeman collected 20 points but once again managed to get nearest the pin on the 8th..... 2nd week running!!! Just as well as he invariably forgets to bring a new ball for the pot and so uses the 'nearest the pin' as compensation !!! At the other end of the field we had 5 people on 29 nine points vying for the balls .... and after a serious amount of 'count backing'..... I worked out the following results.

OK lost on count back to Margaret who lost on count back to Douglas who lost on count back to Lydia who came 3rd who lost on count back to Teb who came 2nd !!!! You miserable pooches..... try to spread the points out next time so that I can have a peaceful beer when I get to the club house !!!! And Leader of the Pack this week is Holger with 33 points. Well done. Handicap adjustments only affect Brian.
Next week we will once again do Kurmitola at the usual time and this will be followed by the Dogs dinner at Gus and Vivien's kennel. Incidentally, Tuesday 11th April is Eid-e-Milad-un-Nabi.... which to you and I means it is a Public Holiday. For me this is an excuse to play Savar... followed by beer and pizza en route home !! if anyone wishes to join me let me know.
